Creating a Unique Mountain Home Style
My clients wanted this vacation home to have different style than their primary residence. Their main home is a mix of formal with frilly and fabric accents. Our discussions lead us toward a comfy classic feel using leather sofas and a chenile upholstered chair and ottoman. .
We combined rounded, detailed wood arms and legs on chairs and sofas with more hefty plush leather sofa for others. All the colors are warm, deep and rich.
A hand knotted rug with a slightly abstracted floral design was custom made to suite the textures, patterns and colors in the room. It links together the leather, chenile and wood furnishings. It also creates a soft and cozy place amidst the hard stone and wood surfaces in the rest of this large room.
Fireplace Door Sculpture
I felt the room still needed a focal point. Back when we first began talking about this project, my clients mentioned they were attracted to pinecones in art and design. I looked for a way to use that idea.Eventually, we selected a fireplace door design from a sculptor/ blacksmith I knew. You can see the end result pictured above, The pine cones are bronze, the fireplace doors are wrought iron. The end result is a practical, graceful and solid feeling item that complements the homeowners' new, unique style.
