Autumn Field by William H. Hays is a 10-color, 9x12 linoleum block, linocut print from a limited edition of 100.
This print depicts a field of tall grass accented by white and purple daisies. This print has an extreme level of detail, each blade of grass is its own stroke of the knife, the artist hand carved hundreds of these blades to achieve a very realistic looking field of tall grass.
“Vermont (my former home state for over 30 years) is a beautiful place. In most parts of the state there are heavily forested mountains which roll off into the distance in diminishing shades of greens and blues. This image was borrowed from an oil painting of the same name which I did some eight years before this print. The painting took nearly a year of off-and-on work. The print took nearly two months of steady work. It was a complicated print to execute.” ~ William Hays
