William Hays | Emptying the Sky
Order soon! Emptying The Sky by William H. Hays is a 7-color, 17.5x11.25 linoleum block, linocut print from a limited edition of 100.
Portraying beautiful rolling hills kissed by the golden sun this print captures the feeling of standing atop a hill at sunset. Utilizing only seven colors the greens, blues, and yellows blend to create unique shades and interesting textures within the print.
Hays’ prints are extremely engrossing, it's easy to become lost in their fine detail, each fine line seen in the print is an individual cut in the original linoleum printing block. His work is just as impressive viewed closely as it is from afar.
"This print was inspired by an oil painting I did in 2004 of the same name. The linocut version of the composition is quite different. From above, I wanted to create rolling hills of the landscape awash in the golden glow of evening as the river captures the reflection of the sky above, emptying its last rays of light." ~ William Hays
This archival print in the edition is an original work of art and there are slight variations from one print to the next.
